The Mill Site
You are entering an exceptional natural site. The natural site of the Mill of Ribaute is part of a geological formation history millions of years old, the history of the Pyrenees, where time and water continue to shape a grandiose landscape. The Verdouble River, from Rouffiac-des-Corbières, has carved an impressive gorge into the Cretaceous limestones of the Anayrac massif, a haven of coolness in the high scrubland, a succession of waterfalls, potholes, and small natural lakes in the rock. The natural site of the Mill of Ribaute is a place steeped in history where man has engaged in dialogue with the elements to take advantage of them.
Located at the confluence between the Verdouble and the small stream of Riben flowing from the village of Duilhac, the vestige of this former flour mill, carried away several times by floods, testifies to this relationship between man and a very strong nature where waters in winter can become capricious.
The establishment of a water reservoir in summer to fight forest fires now allows bathing in this magnificent cool haven, reminding us of the fragility of this nature. You are in a classified site by ministerial decree of 14/02/2017.
